1. On the basis of your reading of Scene I, do you think that Lomov and Choobookov are cordial neighbours?
Ans. Yes, I think that Lomov and Choobookov are cordial neighbour. They are good to each other. He calls Lomov his esteemed neighbour. But at the same time they were ready to supress the other. So often they were busy in fighting with each other.
2. Write a short note on the character of Lomov on the basis of his self- revelation in scene II?
Ans. Lomov was a 35 year old man. He was very straight hearted man. He revealed what was there in his heart. He has got awful temper and he always getting terribly worst up. But he was not afraid of accepting his drawbacks and weakness. He revealed that he was nervous and afraid how Natalia would react on his proposal of marriage.
3. Are Lomov and Natalia really interested in laying claim to Ox-meadows.
Ans. Yes, both Lomov and Natalia are really interested in laying claim to Ox-meadows. Both firmly argued that they were the real owner. They were ready to show documents and proof for the same. In this quarrel, they forgot the more serious and urgent matter which was their marriage proposal. Both are not willing to let the matter rest their because of their vanity.
4. Do you think that Natalia was also interested in marrying Lomov ? What makes you think so?
Ans. Yes, I think Natalia is very much interested in marrying Lomov. She had a serious quarrel with him but when she came to know that he had come there to propose her, then she felt sorry. She goes hysterical and moans and wails. She asks her father to bring him back.
5. Despite his heated arguments with Lomov, Choobookov in the last scene shows haste in finalising the marriage. What could be the reason of his haste?
Ans. All were fickle minded fellow. In their quarrel, they forgot some important matters. Natalia’s marriage is the load on the back of Choobookov. He wants to release this load. So, he hurried down to finalise the marriage of Natalia with Lomov.
6. Do you think the title of the drama is suitable? Give reasons in support of your views. Suggest a different title for the drama?
Ans. Yes, I think the title of the drama is suitable because it was the real purpose of all conversation. A different title for this drama can be, “Who is Right”.
7. Natalia and Lomov would be an ideal couple. Do you agree? Give reasons.
Ans. No, I don’t think that they would be an ideal couple. Because the basic requirement of an ideal couple is mutual respect, understanding and sacrifice. But they both were ill-tempered and reacted very quickly. They often lost self control and used abusive language. They will continue to quarrel over trifles. They will be far from being an ideal couple.
